MOT 204th short memo -A series of news related to space development- Since last month, there have been a series of big news related to space development. * On November 15, US SpaceX succeeded in launching the "Falcon 9" rocket equipped with the "Crew Dragon" spacecraft ("Resilience"). They succeeded in docking with the International Space Station on the 17th. * On December 1, the Chinese unmanned spacecraft "Joga No. 5" landed on the moon, and on the 3rd, it succeeded in collecting rocks and soil on the moon and took off from the moon to return to the earth. * On December 6, the capsule of the Japanese spacecraft "Hayabusa2" returned to Earth. There are also reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is working on a lunar landing. Space development has the aspect of hegemony, but with the addition of commercialization, it seems that it has advanced to a new stage. Speaking of space, our university is also promoting the use of high-precision satellite data, and recently we have just signed an agreement with Axelspace, a venture company that develops small artificial satellites. MOT 203rd short memo In early November, I moderated the symposium "Green / Smart Projects in Southeast Asia and China" held in an academic society. Currently, in various parts of Asia, various projects that aim to solve social issues including low carbonization such as green projects (projects aiming at low carbonization of buildings, cities and regions) and smart projects (ICT, information and communication technology) is being carried out at a level and momentum that surpasses Japan. In details, for individual hardware such as air conditioning equipment and heat insulation of the frame, Japanese houses and office buildings are often at a higher level, but in term of mechanism to operate the hardware in combination with ICT, many Asia countries are seem to be more flexible and practical. In addition, Southeast Asia and China outperform Japan in terms of business management concepts that link the evaluation of building environmental performance such as LEED certification to real estate value and use it effectively. I think Japanese engineers and managers can learn a lot from the examples of green / smart projects in Southeast Asia and various parts of China. MOT 202nd short memo -Persistent technological innovation belief-I was organizing old books when I came across a book "If I Talk About Information" (March 2011, Popular Publishing) written by Seigo Matsuoka for children. I was surprised. It is written that "new technology is called 'innovation' (technological innovation) ..." (page 390 of the same book), and even for children, the intellectual giant explained "innovation = technological innovation". If you have some experience with technology management, you know that "innovation ≠ technology innovation". This word is like a Litmus test paper, and asking what it means is very useful to understand the other party's view of business. (Kazuhiro Fukuyo, Graduate School of Technology Management, Yamaguchi University)

MOT 201st short memo - 10 years acceleration- "The business environment has changed for 10 years due to the corona disaster," says one manager. Products and services are being selected based on whether they are essential or unnecessary. In addition, businesses that were originally weak and declining are being wiped out. On the other hand, online conferencing and telework, which are technically quite advanced but have not been socially accepted, are rapidly becoming widespread. The conventional perception that if you are working if you go to your workplace has been dispelled, and the idea of job-type employment has begun to permeate. ICT is accelerating to meet the demands of society, research and development is progressing, and new services and businesses are created. We are facing a situation where we need to realize what we should have thought 10 years from now. (Kazuhiro Fukuyo, Graduate School of Technology Management, Yamaguchi University)

MOT 200th short memo-Complicated information-Since the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is a virus of an unprecedented type, much of the knowledge and experience so far cannot be relied on, and only new information is reliable. In other words, it can be said that today's society is in a situation where it is easy to be fooled by information. In June of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced the results of the "Information Distribution Survey on Coronavirus Diseases". According to this, it was found that the percentage of people (all generations) who believed in so-called fake news and hoaxes and had spread about the new coronavirus infection was 35.5%. By generation, 45.5% were in their teens and 41.1% were in their 20s, and younger people tended to have more experience in sharing and spreading, but 33.4% in their 40s and 30.6% in their 50s. Even in the generation that seems to be reasonably sensible, the experience of spreading fake news and hoaxes is not low. Sharing and spreading fake news and hoaxes is also a problem, but there are reports that even true for information, it can be a problem if you face it incorrectly. The behavior of "doom scrolling", which reads only pessimistic information on the Internet, has become a problem in English-speaking countries. "Doom" means ruin. It is said that "doom scrolling" can cause depression and mentally narrowing of vision. The information processing ability of each individual is being questioned as to how to sort out information on the new coronavirus infection.
