CHAPTER 7. CLASS EVALUATION Chapter 7. Class Evaluation RESULTS OF STUDENTS’ GRADE CALCULATIONS RESULTS OF CLASS EVALUATION BY THE STUDENTS Based on the results of students’ grade calculations and results of class evaluations by the students, evaluate the class design and whether or not the class was appropriately conducted (class evaluation). What corresponds to C or Check in the PDCA cycle in education is this class evaluation. Looking over the grades of the entire students who took the course in a course will be the information for making a decision of whether or not the course has been appropriately designed. For example, if many students make poor grades in a course, you first need to determine the cause of the problem in the course design itself, instead of seeking the cause of the problem on the student side. In other words, there is a need to inspect whether or not there is a cause in the attainment goals, evaluation methods, education methods, or class schedule. Currently, class evaluations by the students have been conducted at many universities. The evaluation results will be the direct information for making a decision of whether or not the course has been appropriately designed. You will try to maintain the level or further improve the items that earned good reputations in this evaluation and for the items that earned bad reputations, you will need to improve them to the extent possible. In the case of Yamaguchi University, the format that is common to all faculties and all graduate programs is used for the class evaluation conducted by the students in the final class. The Class Evaluation Questionnaire Form for Students are shown in Figure 7-1.
