CHAPTER 5. SYLLABUS PREPARATION Chapter 5. Syllabus Preparation RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MOT EDUCATION CORE CURRICULUM ATTAINMENT GOALS AND THE GRADE CALCULATION METHOD Write the education goals, evaluation methods, education methods, couse content, schedule, etc. decided in each course design in a syllabus and release it. An example of a syllabus (example based on Yamaguchi University’s syllabus format) is shown in Figure 5-1 on the following page. Taking this syllabus as an example, we see the points of attention when preparing a syllabus below. In this example, it is described, “Understand ‘Discovering and analyzing market opportunities,’ ‘Approach to Market,’ and ‘Interaction with customers’ as the basic knowledge on marketing…” as the attainment goal from the Perspectives of Knowledge and understanding. This content corresponds to Discovering and analyzing market opportunities, Approach to Market, and Interaction with Customers in the Intermediate-level Items consisting Marketing which is one of the Basic Learning Items in the MOT Education Core Curriculum (see Figure 3-2). As the attainment goal from the Perspectives of Skills and Expression, it is described, “Being able to plan a product by using an analytical method such as task analysis, etc.” This content corresponds to the Analytical Method which is one of the Basic Learning Items in the MOT Education Core Curriculum (see Figure 3-2). As just described, when describing the attainment goals from the Perspectives of Knowledge and Understanding and Perspectives of Skills and Expression, you need to at least become conscious of the learning items in the MOT Education Core Curriculum. You can use various methods such as written tests, reports, presentations, etc. for grade calculation but you need to select the evaluation method that is appropriate for the attainment goals by perspective. In this example, evaluations related to the Perspectives of Knowledge and Understanding and Perspectives of Thinking and Judgment are mainly conducted by written tests, reports, and presentations and evaluations related to the Perspectives of Skills and Expression are mainly conducted by presentations and exercises. Other than the above, evaluations related to the Perspective of Interests and Motivation are mainly conducted by the degree of students’ participation in class and their attendance. Evaluations related to the Perspective of Attitude are conducted by their behavior in class, the degree of their participation in class, and presentations.
